Common questions about IB to German Abitur
How is the IB converted to a German Abitur grade?
The KMK agreement on the IB Diploma uses the formula N = 1 + 3 × (42 − P) / (42 − 24), where P is your IB total including bonus points. Totals from 42 to 45 all count as 1.0, and 24 points is 4.0.
Is the result rounded?
No. Under the KMK rules for foreign school certificates, the grade is set to one decimal place and is not rounded. For example, 37 points works out to 1.83 and becomes 1.8.
Can I be recognised with a grade 3?
All six subjects need at least a 4. A single 3 can be compensated if another subject at the same level or higher has at least a 5 and your total is at least 24 points.
Which subjects does Germany require?
The KMK requires two languages (one continued as Language A), mathematics, a natural science, and a social science, with mathematics or a natural science at HL. This converter does not check the subject combination, so confirm it with uni-assist or your university.
