Common questions about IB to Indian percentage

How are IB grades converted to Indian percentages?

The IB's suggested conversion for Indian universities, published by the Association of Indian Universities, gives a percentage band for each grade: 7 is 96–100, 6 is 83–95, 5 is 70–82, 4 is 56–69, 3 is 41–55, 2 is 21–40, and 1 is 1–20.

Why does the converter use the band midpoint?

The IB document says schools may calculate equivalent marks by giving the midpoint of the range for each grade. A 7 therefore becomes 98%, a 6 becomes 89%, and a 5 becomes 76%.

Should I average all six subjects or my best five?

It depends on the university and course. Some average all subjects, others use the best five or best four, and some require specific subjects to be included. Pick the option that matches the admission rules you are applying under.

Are TOK and the Extended Essay included?

No. The conversion covers the six IB subject grades only. TOK and Extended Essay bonus points have no percentage equivalent in the IB's table.
